              ON THE ROAD TO ALASKA

June 26, 2010

Greetings from Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. These photos show the Perennial Parrot Staff at the "Sign Forest" in Watson Lake, a MUST SEE and DO for anyone traveling the Alaska Highway. It was started by a home sick soldier back in 1942 while building the highway ... he put up a sign on a post pointing the way to his home town and how far it was ... the rest is history. There are now over 68,000 signs from around the world nailed or screwed to posts.
We took great pride in screwing our Polytechnic sign to one of the posts in the forest. Now everyone who passes through this place and marvels at all the signs will know that we and Polytechnic were here and are proud of our high school. If you are planning a road trip to Alaska on the Alaska Highway you will have to pass through Watson Lake ... be sure to bring your own sign and one for Polytechnic.

                    The Perennial Parrot
is now posted ... go to the "Newsletter" tab.

PLEASE NOTE:  The next issue would normally be in August, however,
we will be leaving home on May 7th to join a caravan of 7 other RVs headed
"North To Alaska" and will not return home until September 1st. IF we have
enough input via email we will publish the August to the web site and send out
the CDs and hard copies after we return home. If we do not have sufficient
input the next issue will be mid to late September.

And speaking of the future issues, we are ALWAYS looking for stories,
photos, articles thoughts, memories, etc., for the newsletter. All we ask
is that whatever you send be about Poly or San Francisco ... just look at
the newsletters already posted and use them as a guide ... THANKS

The Polytechnic Athletic Association holds an annual luncheon every August
and is open to all Polyites. The Association was started back in 1983. If you do not receive their newsletter you will find it posted on the "Links" page of this site. The Association is one of the few remaining links to our "Great Lady in Granit" and needs your support to continue the annual luncheons and to maintain the special services which they provide to San Francisco's Polytechnic High School Alumni.

The Association needs everyone's help to keep it running. A $10 donation is appropriate. Any donation more than $10 is encouraged and will be appreciated. The Association is a US tax-exempt organization.
